Construction To Begin on Columbus Museum of Art Expansion
Posted on December 18, 2013
SMBH, Inc. is providing the structural engineering services on the $30-million expansion of the Columbus Museum of Art. The two phase project, which was recently featured in ASCE’s national publication, Civil Engineering, includes a complete gutting of an earlier addition on the north side of the museum. The second phase includes a new building from the ground up. A new gallery wing and a long, glass-enclosed connective space between it and the original 1931 building will occupy the east side of the building. Known as the Shard of Light, this space will function as the new main entrance to the entire complex, leading to all the galleries, a new cafe, a museum store, and a sculpture garden.
